Karave to Korfos: A Coastal Walk Through Gavdos’ Quiet Northern Shore

Karave – Korfos: A Coastal Walk Along Gavdos’ Northern Shore

The route from Karave to Korfos is one of the most characteristic coastal walks on Gavdos. It follows the road and small paths that run parallel to the shoreline, offering continuous sea views and a deep sense of calm. The video captures this experience perfectly: a simple, authentic walk beside the water, with Gavdos’ wild landscape dominating every frame.

Detailed Description of the Walk

The walk begins at Karave, the port of Gavdos, and heads toward Korfos, one of the island’s most well‑known seaside settlements. The route follows the coastal road, with constant views of the sea, the rocky shoreline, and the island’s characteristic low vegetation.

As you continue, the landscape becomes more open. The sea remains almost always visible, and walking beside the water creates a relaxing rhythm. The route is straightforward, with no technical challenges, making it an ideal introduction to the natural environment of Gavdos.

The video highlights exactly this feeling: a calm walk along the coast, accompanied by the sound of the wind and the sea.

A few minutes before reaching Korfos, the path presents a small challenge. The trail leads to a rocky section where you must either climb over the rock or pass through the water to continue. This short segment adds a touch of adventure to an otherwise easy route.

Once past this point, the path opens again, and the view toward Korfos makes the effort worthwhile.

Personal Experience

Although the route from Karave to Korfos is generally easy and suitable for everyone, the rocky section near the end stood out. I chose to climb over the rock. The climb wasn’t technically difficult, but it required steady footing and a bit of attention. It was the only moment that raised the difficulty level and at the same time, it added a small dose of adventure.

Once past the rock, the path opened again, and the view toward Korfos made the effort completely worth it.

This small “obstacle” is something visitors should know not to avoid it, but to be prepared. The rest of the route remains easy, calm, and enjoyable, but this point gives the experience a unique character.
